@craigslistcallingcards
@craigslistcallingcards is a found art project using Craigslist as medium and source material for all images and text used in the images of the project. The name for the account is a reference to calling cards, which historically were the predecessor to the contemporary business card. People used calling cards in the 1800s to reach people when they were not available. Calling cards often had photographs and brief snippets of information about the person who sent the card. With this notion in mind, I wanted to make something inspired by the function of the bygone calling card. Using the information people share with others on the 'Missed Connection' section of Craigslist in conjunction with the images from the 'Free Stuff' section, I have made a (growing) series of contemporary calling cards. These calling cards do not function the way traditional ones did, but it speaks to their history. The source material used for @craigslistcallingcards was posted with the intent of reaching out to someone with hopes of future interaction, just like classic calling cards. I also wanted to use this project to highlight the spectrum of topics people are willing to share anonymously.
